Atheist Group Takes on Bush Initiative

Annie Laurie Gaylor and the Freedom From Religion foundation is moving ahead with a lawsuit challenging the Bush administration's faith-based initiative. it looks like a tough fight, but worthy of our support.

"When they can prove there's religious content in those programs, they've been quite successful and they've won a few cases," Lupu said. "When they've tried to go after the initiative as a whole, they've been less successful."

The case goes before the Supreme Court next week. You can read the brief here. It's interesting to note that the Bush administration is arguing that taxpayers have no standing when it comes to how the executive branch spends funds, but taxpayers have standing when the issue is originates in congress. The Bush administration's position seems inconsistent.

I found an interesting reference to the FFRF at Stop The ACLU. I don't think they like us much.
